The City of Radcliff Engineering Department has installed cutting edge technology called a Geographic
Information System (GIS). GIS is a spatial software system that helps the City better serve the community.
Aerial Photography of Radcliff, topographic information, contour maps, parcel and zone boundaries, soil
information, utilities, and many other pieces of information are included on the system.
The use of this information technology goes far beyond GIS. With an interactive City website,
the City has recently launched a new public outreach website at
Cityof.radcliff.org/stormwater. The "Earth Extreme"
website offers flash graphics and educational materials on Radcliff's environment. This website also
offers access to a large amount of City information quickly.
The GIS system is extremely helpful in Homeland Security efforts and increases
public safety and security. The system can be used by firemen to keep in touch
with floor plans of buildings on their vehicle laptops, as well as an instant
list of every person who needs to be contacted within a defined geographic area.
These systems have also streamlined for the public who may in the past have had
to call numerous people within the City to put all the information they wanted
together and it may have taken more than one phone call. It is the goal of the
City of Radcliff that these systems of the City will be informative, promote
public safety and security, and streamline the process of obtaining information
for various uses by the citizens of Radcliff as well as potential citizens, owners,
and developers.
